We recommend having your tank pumped every 3-4 years for most households. If you can't remember the last time yours was done, it may be time to book a pump in.
Houshold grease traps should be emptied every 6-12 months. (depending on oil usage)
Business grease traps every 3-6 months. (depending on oil usage)
We recommend this to avoid build up, blockages and overflowing which can bring a putrid odor.
If your tank has a wet substance surrounding the lid, an unpleasant smell coming from it your or is obviously leaking out the top, chances are the tank is backing up as ether your outlet pipe may be failing to let liquid exit the tank due to accumulated solids or too much sludge and scum has entered the drain field. If this is occurring, your tank needs to be pumped ASAP as your system is failing. Find the diagram below to see how a working septic system looks.
